We know we say this all the time, but seriously, trust us when we tell you this Wednesday night in Freddies is going to be pretty damn special. For the very first time, Pikes Presents The Avalanches – and it also happens to be the first time they’ve been back in Ibiza for a whopping 20 years, so needless to say excitement levels are running high in both camps.
“So many people have messaged in the past weeks telling us Pikes is their all-time favorite venue in the world, so naturally we are incredibly excited,” the guys tell us via satellite (so to speak) as they’re currently jetting in from down under. “Ibiza means good music, good people and celebrating life. It’s been 20 years – we are so excited!” Bless – the feeling is mutual. We will always love you!
We’re pretty nosey, so we asked for a peek at what’s inside their long-haul luggage, however they weren’t giving too much away before the big night, remaining cryptic to keep us intrigued until the last minute. “We’re carting around lots of vinyl and at least four or five unreleased tracks by us and our friends.” Will they drop THAT Queen sample in the club that was once Freddie Mercury’s bedroom? Their lips are sealed, so there’s only one way to find out… on the dance floor, obvs.
So much has changed (for us and them!) since they left us over the last two decades and now, we can’t wait to see what they’ll do in our little rave cave – especially after catching their mind-blowing Glasto set a few weeks ago. “Small rooms usually mean a lot more vinyl and a lot more left turns and obscure favorites plus unreleased tracks of our own. Mostly we bounce of each other, someone will take the lead and someone will scramble madly to keep up and follow them, haha!” Ah, we do love a mad scramble here at Pikes.
