The idea is simple. We invite guests joining us at Pikes at night to make a contribution to one of the local organisations we support. Their representatives collect the money themselves on the night and 100% of your contribution goes straight to them. No middle men, no commissions and no deductions.
And the generosity of our guests has been remarkable…
The programme’s success has brought many requests from other organisations wanting to be part of it. That’s hard, because there is no shortage of deserving causes on this island. But in the same way that every charity we work with has a focused purpose, so must we.
We support local charities helping people in genuine need, crisis or peril. For children, we go broader, supporting development, welfare and protection.
We don’t sponsor or donate in exchange for exposure. This isn’t marketing.
We make two exceptions: Care4Cats, because cats have been part of Pikes for forty years, and the Mercury Phoenix Trust, Freddie Mercury’s AIDS charity, which we support each year during our Freddie’s birthday celebrations.
But the initiative has always been about more than money.
Many of the organisations we support are local charities without the resources or reach of their larger national counterparts. By joining us at Pikes, their volunteers have the opportunity to speak to thousands of people each season, explaining who they are, what they do and why their work matters.
That visibility can be incredibly valuable. Every conversation introduces their work to someone new, every contribution helps them continue it and every person who stops to listen helps give these organisations a louder voice.
We’re proud to give them a platform at Pikes, to help connect their work with the generosity of the people who come through our doors.
